Fresh off their World Series win last season, the San Jose Spitfires played their 1998 season again at the San Jose Municipal Stadium. Attendance climbed, from around a few hundred fans a game in 1997 to roughly 350 fans a game in their second season. On the team was 19-year-old catcher Alex Sickinger, the youngest player in women's professional baseball.
By the end of July, the LPB still hadn't scored its first home run, but San Jose's P.J. Brun came close to an inside-the-park attempt before being thrown out at home plate. And when the season was cancelled prematurely, the San Jose Spitfires had held a 5 win, 5 loss record.
